I also developed this problem and pinned it down mostly through elimination diet. However, citric acid was also in medications I had been taking (e.g. Nasonex and Astelin for nasal allergies). It is also in laundry detergents such as Cheer. It is even in some of the over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream preparations I had been using to alleviate symptoms. Some of the foods and beverages I was especially fond of have it: hummus and gingerale. I have not succeeded in identifying all fruits other than citrus fruits containing citric acid, but apple, pineapple, and strawberry are among them. The ingredients of some shampoos, e.g. Nioxin, have citric acid as well. Not easily avoided.
